Update: H.E.A.L. and me!

Given the political climate, we will not be bringing medical students this year but hope to establish a way to do a virtual health fair at some point. If anyone is interested in donating to participate in supporting our efforts with the long term clinic, go to www.weareheal.org. Don’t forget to sign up to have H.E.A.L. (Health Care, Empowerment, Advocacy and Learning) as your charity for Amazon Smile. Furthermore, if the idea of a virtual clinic interests you, let me know so we can include you in the process.

For me personally, I’m working on getting my book, “Renegade M.D.,” out. This book is a compilation of short stories I have written over the past fifteen years about my patients dealing with homelessness, mental illness, death and dying, and drug use. In addition to this blog, you can follow updates at my Instagram: SusanPartovi. Next up: my book, “This is Haiti,” about my experiences working in Haiti over the last twelve years.

I’m still medical director of Homeless Health Care L.A., where my team (and it really is the most amazing team!) and I work with the most vulnerable people experiencing homelessness – especially those dealing with severe mental illness and drug use. We are working hard to keeping our patients alive to start living a life they love.

The Grave Disability Work Group that I co-founded and lead is still going strong. We’re a group of experts and advocates who meet monthly to discuss strategies for taking care of the severely mentally ill, especially those unhoused/incarcerated in L.A. County and California. We are working with state senators to create legislation around “Housing that Heals” for this fragile group. I’ll be posting more on this as events unfold. Thanks, everyone, for your ongoing support!
